Our Story
The photograph above holds a special place in our hearts. It honors my sister, Lin, whose strength, kindness, and unwavering dedication inspired so much of what Mend & Bloom has become. After losing Lin, I found myself reflecting on the simple things that bring comfort, connection, and healing. Mend & Bloom was born from that reflection, a desire to create meaningful, screen-free toys that encourage imagination, storytelling, and emotional connection.
Every doll is lovingly handmade with care and intention. While they share a similar design, each one develops a personality all its own. Just like the children who cherish them, no two are exactly alike. Through quiet moments, bedtime stories, and imaginative play, we hope our dolls become treasured companions that bring comfort, joy, and a sense of belonging to the families who welcome them home.

Meet Dorothy
Hello, and welcome to Mend & Bloom.
My name is Dorothy Cocca, and the heart of Mend & Bloom comes from a lifetime of learning, creating, caring for others, and raising a family.
My journey began in healthcare, where I trained and worked as a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Even then, I was fascinated by the connection between emotional well-being and human growth. During nursing school, I began to realize that my interests extended beyond medicine alone. For much of my life, I felt pulled between two worlds—science and art. Although I chose not to continue nursing as a profession, I never left behind the compassion,
empathy, and desire to help others that first led me there.
Inspired by several of my aunts who worked in the garment industry, I followed my creative side and studied the technical aspects of fashion. What began as an interest grew into a rewarding thirty-year career as a pattern engineer, software trainer, and manufacturing consultant. Those years taught me the value of craftsmanship, thoughtful design, quality, and creating things that bring meaning and joy to people's lives.
As a parent, I witnessed the power of play, storytelling, and meaningful relationships in helping children grow, learn, and navigate their emotions. Those experiences inspired me to continue my education, earning an interdisciplinary degree in Psychology and Sociology, where I explored human development, behavior, family systems, and the social factors that shape our lives.
Mend & Bloom brings all of these experiences together. It combines the compassion of healthcare, the creativity and technical skill of design and manufacturing, the perspective of parenthood, and an understanding of emotional and social development. Every doll, story, and playscape is created with the belief that children deserve opportunities for imaginative, screen-free play that encourages connection, comfort, creativity, and emotional growth.
I hope that each doll and story helps create meaningful moments between children and the people who love them.

Our Mission
At Mend & Bloom, our mission is to create comforting stories, meaningful play experiences, and handmade companions that support emotional growth, connection, and imaginative exploration.
We believe play is one of a child's most important languages. Through storytelling, nurturing relationships, and screen-free imaginative play, children develop emotional literacy, self-expression, empathy, resilience, and a deeper understanding of themselves and others.
Drawing from backgrounds in healthcare, child development, design, and education, we thoughtfully create dolls, stories, and playscapes that encourage children to explore feelings, build confidence, and engage in meaningful play. We hope to provide families, therapists, educators, and caregivers with tools that foster connection, creativity, and emotional wellbeing—one story and one child at a time.
